The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has felicitated with Muslims across the country on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, calling for interfaith harmony, unity, and compassion among Nigerians.

In a statement released on Friday, June 6, and signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN emphasized that Eid-el-Kabir is a time for sacrifice, love, and kindness; values shared by both Christians and Muslims.

“Eid-el-Kabir reminds us of the faith and obedience of Abraham (Prophet Ibrahim). It is a time to spread joy, strengthen family bonds, and promote peace within our communities,” Okoh stated.

The Christian body urged Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to build bridges, celebrate diversity, and extend hands of friendship across religious lines.

While celebrating with the Muslim faithful, CAN also expressed deep sorrow over the recent flooding in Mokwa, Niger State, which has claimed lives, displaced families, and destroyed properties.

“We send our prayers to everyone affected by the floods and ask God to give them strength and comfort,” Okoh said, pledging CAN’s commitment to support relief efforts.

He called on churches and individuals to donate food, clothing, money, and prayers to the victims and lauded the efforts of the Niger State government, emergency responders, and volunteers already assisting those in need.

Reaffirming the resilience of Nigerians in the face of adversity, CAN said the season of sacrifice should inspire renewed compassion and social responsibility.

“Small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” Okoh added, encouraging citizens to show empathy and help build a peaceful and united nation.

The statement concluded with prayers for peace, healing, and prosperity across the country.
