Saudi Arabia Bans Nigerians, Others from Taking Selfies at Hajj Sites

The Saudi Arabian government has imposed a strict ban on photography and video recording at key Hajj sites, including the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi) in Madinah.

The ban, which applies to all pilgrims; Nigerians included is aimed at preserving the spiritual sanctity of the annual pilgrimage.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the decision is intended to prevent distractions and maintain the solemnity of worship.

Authorities emphasized that the Hajj is a sacred period meant for devotion, humility, and unity, and any behavior contrary to these values will not be tolerated.

To ensure compliance, security personnel will be stationed throughout the holy sites to monitor and enforce the regulation.

Pilgrims have been strongly advised to cooperate with authorities and refrain from taking selfies, photos, or videos during the pilgrimage.

The Saudi government said the measure is part of broader efforts to create a spiritually enriching environment, free from disruptions and social media distractions.
