Tragedy struck in Yar-Doka Village, Damau District, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday, when 11 workers were buried alive after a massive heap of sand collapsed at a local block-making site.
The heartbreaking incident caused panic in the community as rescue efforts began immediately to retrieve the victims from the rubble.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the Village Head of Yar-Doka, Alhaji Lawal Damau, reported the incident to the police.
“It was reported that a sand heap collapsed at the block-making site, resulting in the tragic death of 11 individuals while several others sustained injuries,” Hassan stated.
He disclosed that seven injured victims were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in the village, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
Hassan added that the exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation, with local government and state authorities already informed and involved in the inquiry.
“The concerned authorities are working diligently to determine the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.
“Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” he said.
The police spokesperson also emphasized the need for stricter safety protocols at construction and industrial sites to prevent similar occurrences.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those affected by this devastating tragedy,” he said.
