Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, Director of Football at ABS FC, has urged Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to resist the temptation of handing out automatic starting spots to any player in the national team.
Speaking in the aftermath of Nigeria’s thrilling Unity Cup victory over Jamaica, where the Eagles triumphed 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time; Chukwuemeka emphasized the depth of talent available within the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
According to him, the recent performances have proven that home-based players possess the quality and determination to compete fiercely for places in the senior national team.
“Coach Chelle’s approach clearly shows that Nigeria remains Africa’s football powerhouse, blessed with a pool of talented players ready to rise to the occasion and deliver,” Chukwuemeka stated.
He further stressed, “No player should be guaranteed a Super Eagles jersey. The abundance of quality players in Nigeria means every spot must be earned through hard work and consistent performance.”
As the Super Eagles prepare for future challenges, Chukwuemeka’s call serves as a timely reminder that competition for places will be fierce, keeping the squad sharp and focused.
