Shops owned by Igbo traders in Gwagwalada were closed on Monday in protest over the killing of a fellow trader by suspected armed robbers in Old Kutunku recently.

The victim, whose identity is yet to be officially confirmed, was reportedly attacked and fatally wounded during a robbery incident that has since stirred outrage within the local Igbo community.

In a coordinated response, members of the Igbo business community shut down their shops across key areas of Gwagwalada, demanding justice for the slain trader and immediate action from security agencies to address the deteriorating safety in the area.

“We are tired of being targeted and left without protection,” one trader lamented. “This is not just about one man, it’s about our collective safety.”

Community leaders have condemned the killing and called on the police to launch a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further escalation.

The protest has drawn attention to persistent security lapses in Gwagwalada, with residents urging authorities to boost surveillance and ensure better protection of lives and property.
