The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, has called on media practitioners to be communicators of hope, stressing their vital role in spreading compassion and promoting peace in today’s world.

Speaking during the 59th World Day of Social Communications celebration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ado-Ekiti, Bishop Ajakaye urged journalists to embrace the theme of the year, “Share with Gentleness the Hope that is in Your Hearts” (1 Peter 3:15-16), not as a one-off message but a daily commitment.

“Just as the hope of the risen Christ is promised to us, we must communicate this every day,” he said. “All of us are pilgrims of hope, and we must live as such, working to make society a better place.”

The bishop emphasized the need for honest reporting and encouraged the faithful to resist despair, urging media professionals to inspire trust and promote unity through their platforms.

The event drew dignitaries including representatives of the Ekiti State Government, academics, media executives, clergy, and laity.

Highlights included a cultural performance by the Catholic Artistes and Entertainers Association of Nigeria (CAEAN), which received a standing ovation.

The celebration concluded with a renewed call for responsible communication anchored in truth, peace, and hope.
