Pyramids FC have written a new chapter in African football history, claiming their maiden CAF Champions League title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo.
The Egyptian club sealed a 3-2 aggregate win in the second leg of the final played at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium, marking a milestone moment for the Cairo-based side.
Fiston Mayele opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with his ninth goal of the tournament, before Ahmed Samy doubled the lead with a powerful header in the 56th minute.
Despite a late response from Iqraam Rayners in the 75th minute, Sundowns fell short of a comeback.
With this triumph, Pyramids FC become the fourth Egyptian club, after Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Ismaily to lift Africa’s most prestigious club football trophy.
Their victory also extends Egypt’s dominance in the competition, securing a third consecutive CAF Champions League title for the nation following Al Ahly’s wins in 2023 and 2024.
This landmark achievement solidifies Pyramids FC’s place among the elite of African football.
