Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has added a new academic feather to her cap, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State.

The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement by her media aide, Chris Okeke, following her official conferment at the university’s 43rd Postgraduate Convocation Ceremony on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Dame Jonathan underscored the power of lifelong learning, declaring that age should never be a limitation to pursuing education.

“No age is too late to achieve your academic dreams,” she said. “Even in retirement, you are not too old to go back to school.”

She dedicated her PhD to Nigerian women, using the occasion to reaffirm her longstanding advocacy for women, children, and youth empowerment.

She pledged to continue championing education and social justice, especially for the vulnerable.

Grateful for the support of her family, she offered special appreciation to her husband, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for his encouragement throughout her academic journey.

“He saw me through the programme with his support and useful suggestions,” she said, beaming with pride. “If I can do it, anyone can.”
