In response to the deadly floods that ravaged parts of Mokwa, Niger State, Senator Sani Musa (APC-Niger East) has donated N50 million and truckloads of food supplies to assist displaced residents.
The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, announced the donation on Saturday, describing the situation as “a deeply painful moment for our people.”
The relief package includes rice, millet, and maize, aimed at easing the suffering of victims affected by days of torrential rainfall.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), reported that over 3,000 people have been displaced, with 503 households affected.
The flood claimed 151 lives, destroyed two bridges, and cut off several key roads, especially in Hausawa and Tiffin Maza communities.
Senator Musa extended his condolences to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Etsu Nupe, and the people of Mokwa, while praising emergency responders and community leaders for their swift action.
He also called on the private sector and humanitarian groups to support ongoing recovery efforts, saying, “In moments of crisis like this, our unity and shared humanity must rise above all else.”
“May Almighty Allah grant mercy to the departed, comfort the grieving, and guide our leaders as they navigate these trying times,” he prayed.
