A short video clip from the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway inauguration has set off a flurry of speculation after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appeared to deliberately skip a handshake with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The video, shared by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, shows Tinubu greeting a line-up of dignitaries; including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Ahmed Lawan, Governor Babagana Zulum, and former Bayelsa Governor Duoye Diri before walking past Sanwo-Olu without acknowledgment.

The moment has ignited debate among political watchers and social media users, with interpretations ranging from deliberate snub to innocent oversight.

Given Tinubu’s status as a former Lagos governor and Sanwo-Olu’s political benefactor, the apparent omission has added fuel to ongoing rumours of shifting power dynamics within the Lagos APC.

Analysts are suggesting the cold shoulder could signal tensions within the president’s inner circle, possibly tied to 2027 succession plans or realignment within the ruling party’s Lagos structure.

As of press time, neither the Presidency nor Governor Sanwo-Olu’s office has issued a statement on the incident.

In a political season where gestures often speak louder than words, this video has added another layer to Nigeria’s unfolding power drama leaving citizens and commentators alike to ask: signal or oversight?
