The Super Eagles of Nigeria clinched the 2025 Unity Cup title in dramatic fashion on Saturday, edging past Jamaica 4–3 on penalties after a pulsating 2–2 draw in regulation time at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford, London.

The victory marks Eric Chelle’s first trophy as head coach of the Super Eagles, barely months after taking the helm of the national team.

Nigeria opened the scoring through Moses Simon, who finished off a sweeping move involving Cyriel Dessers and Wilfred Ndidi, whose incisive through ball sliced open the Jamaican defense. But the lead was short-lived, as Kaheim Dixon equalized for the Reggae Boyz with a composed finish.

In the second half, Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s advantage with a moment of individual brilliance-gliding past defenders before burying a low shot into the bottom corner.

However, Jon Russell struck back for Jamaica, leveling the tie once again and sending the match to penalties.

The shootout saw both sides convert their first three kicks. The breakthrough came when Dwayne Atkinson’s effort crashed against the bar.

Bruno Onyemaechi then slotted in confidently before debutant Chrisantus Uche sealed Nigeria’s win with a composed final strike.

The win not only underscores Nigeria’s attacking depth but also signals a promising start for Chelle’s tenure, as the Super Eagles build momentum ahead of the next international window.
