The family of the late Shimite Bello Love, former Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to take full control of the investigation into her death, citing alleged mishandling by the Delta State Police Command.

Speaking at a press conference, family head Chief Kimashinor Nwakalo-Imu described the ongoing police investigation as “sloppy and unprofessional.”

He said the Delta Command failed to comply fully with the IGP Monitoring Unit’s directive, which followed a petition from the family.

According to Nwakalo-Imu, although the case file was transferred to the IGP’s office in Abuja, the key suspect – David Favour Love was not.

“Despite the IGP’s order to transfer both the case file and the suspect to Abuja, the Delta Command has only partially complied. This suggests a deliberate obstruction of justice,” he said.

The family insists on pursuing a case of criminal negligence regardless of the autopsy findings.

“We will not stop asking questions or demanding accountability. We want justice for Shimite,” Nwakalo-Imu stated.

They are demanding the immediate rearrest and transfer of the suspect to the IGP Monitoring Unit. Failing that, the family is urging the police to declare him wanted and ensure his arrest.

“This is not just about one life lost. It’s about upholding justice and ensuring the law applies equally to all,” Nwakalo-Imu said.
