Werder Bremen full-back Felix Agu has officially switched his international allegiance to Nigeria, embracing his heritage and expressing pride in reconnecting with his roots.

The 25-year-old, born in Germany to a Nigerian father, said the decision was driven by a desire to honour his father’s homeland.

FIFA recently approved his request following confirmation from the German Football Federation that he had never played in an official match for Germany at senior or junior levels.

While Agu featured in two friendlies for Germany’s U21 side in 2019, those appearances did not hinder his eligibility to make the switch.

Beyond football, Agu revealed his love for Nigerian culture, mentioning music stars like Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and Davido among his favourites.

He also enjoys traditional Nigerian dishes such as jollof rice and plantain.

The defender described Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha as a personal role model, saying, “I look up to him.”

Excited about his new chapter, Agu said he has been warmly welcomed by his Super Eagles teammates and is focused on contributing to the team’s success.

He hopes to win trophies with Nigeria and is particularly looking forward to the upcoming Unity Cup clash against Ghana.

Agu has enjoyed a strong 2024/2025 Bundesliga season with Werder Bremen, making 22 appearances and scoring three goals.

Known for his pace, versatility, and defensive solidity, he is expected to be a valuable asset for Nigeria’s national team.
