The Nigeria Police Force on Monday announced the neutralisation of six armed bandits in separate sting operations in Abuja and Jigawa, marking a major victory in the fight against violent crime.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the operations reflect the success of coordinated efforts aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates and securing lives and property across the country.
In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives of the FCT Police Command launched a joint operation in the Maitama axis, foiling a planned robbery by a notorious gang involved in multiple high-profile carjackings and armed robberies.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police confronted the gang as they prepared to strike.
A gun battle ensued, leading to the death of a key suspect, Abdulmininu Bello, alias Babanle, and the arrest of seven others.
The suspects include Ibrahim Muhammad (22, ex-convict), Abubakar Abdullahi (22), Sarajo Yusuf (20), Sanusi Ali (51), Abubakar Sani, Isiaka Adamu (ex-convict), and Abdullahi Isah.
Items recovered from the scene include four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, eleven 7.62mm rounds, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red Boxer motorcycle.
In a related development, the Jigawa State Police Command rescued 80-year-old Hajiya Hajara, who had been kidnapped by a 12-man gang from her home in Sarbi Village, Minjibir LGA, Kano State.
The kidnappers attempted to escape through Jigawa but were intercepted by police in collaboration with local security groups.
A fierce gunfight followed, resulting in the death of five suspects and the arrest of five others, including the gang leader, a 35-year-old man identified as Yahaya.
The elderly victim was rescued unhurt, evaluated at a hospital, and later discharged.
Recovered from the Jigawa operation were two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated LAR rifle, fourteen rounds of live ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers for their bravery and success, urging the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement with timely information.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to public safety and national security.
