Nigerian actor and activist Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has fired back at those questioning his Yoruba identity due to his refusal to support the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a bold post on his official X account, the outspoken comedian dismissed claims linking his ethnic authenticity to his political views, warning against the dangerous fusion of culture and partisan politics.
“My lineage is authentic and well-documented,” he declared, while accusing critics of politicizing Yoruba identity.
He reminded them that the Yoruba people have existed long before the APC and will remain long after.
“The Yoruba people existed long before APC or any political formation in Nigeria, and we’ll be here long after them,” he wrote, adding that “Supporting a party is a personal choice, but that choice has no bearing on one’s cultural authenticity.”
Macaroni’s firm stance extended to an unfiltered rebuttal of ethnic partisanship. “APC is not Yoruba, and Yoruba is not APC. Let’s not get it twisted,” he stated.
The post also revealed a more personal side of the entertainer, who referenced his past financial hardship as part of the journey that shaped his resolve and activism.
In an environment where political loyalty is often weaponized, Mr Macaroni’s message is both timely and daring-a loud call to separate identity from ideology.
