Seventeen students of Emerald Grammar School, Lagos, have been inducted into the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Safety Club by the Ojota Command as part of activities marking this year’s Children’s Day celebration themed “Inter-School Road Safety.”
Chief Route Commander Toyin Oladoke said the initiative is aimed at equipping students with vital road safety knowledge and inspiring them to serve as advocates within their schools and communities.
“The Safety Club aims to educate students on road safety tips and encourage them to spread the message to their peers, siblings, and neighbors,” Oladoke said, adding that “The inducted students will serve as traffic controllers in their schools and promote good road culture.”
She advised the students to stay alert on the road, avoid distracting drivers, use seatbelts, and educate their parents on the risks of using phones while driving.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Special Marshal, Ojota Command, Olugbenga Afolabi, stressed the need to instill safety habits early in life.
“This will help them develop good road culture and share their knowledge with others,” he said.
The colourful celebration, sponsored by Mouka Foam, featured games, music, dancing, and a quiz competition, which saw ‘The Apostolic Church Grammar School’ clinch the top prize.
