Nyanya Bridge has witnessed yet another tragedy as a delivery truck lost control on Tuesday evening, killing one person and severely injuring two others from the same family.
The victims were reportedly standing by the roadside around 6:30 p.m. when a Coca-Cola truck suffered brake failure, veered off course, and smashed into several vehicles before slamming into a parked construction truck.
While the truck drivers walked away unscathed, a female customs officer narrowly escaped death when her car was crushed in the chain collision.
Emergency responders from the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the FCT Police Command quickly arrived at the scene.
The two survivors were rushed to the National Hospital where they are now receiving treatment and said to be responding well.
The lifeless body of the deceased was handed over to his heartbroken family by a joint rescue team of FEMD and the police.
Reacting to the accident, the Acting Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, expressed deep concern and called on drivers to maintain heightened vigilance on the roads.
He underscored the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Engr. Mohammed also reminded Abuja residents to make use of the 112 emergency toll-free line in the event of any emergency, emphasizing the need for rapid communication and intervention.
This latest incident deepens the growing concerns over recurring crashes on Nyanya Bridge, highlighting the urgent need for stricter road safety enforcement.
