The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has confirmed the death of 19 persons in a tragic road crash along the Lokoja-Obajana expressway on Sunday evening.
According to FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the accident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. and involved a Toyota Hiace bus with 27 passengers-22 adults and five children-and a Sino truck.
Eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the remains of the deceased were taken to a nearby mosque for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
“The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and sympathised with the families of the victims,” the statement read.
He described the crash as “an avoidable tragedy” caused by speed violation and wrongful overtaking.
In response, the Corps Marshal has directed stricter enforcement of speed limits and increased patrol presence on high-risk routes, warning that reckless driving will no longer be tolerated.
The FRSC also urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and drive responsibly to prevent further loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
