The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s President, but rather desperate to see the country succeed.
Obi made this statement on Saturday during a special Anniversary Sabbath service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Umuahia, marking two years of Governor Alex Otti’s administration in Abia State.
Acknowledging the challenges of governance in Nigeria and its states, Obi called on the people of Abia to pray for Governor Otti and his Commissioners.
He also urged Nigerians to pray for all leaders to ensure public funds are not wasted but used effectively for the common good.
“When I say to people I am not desperate to be a President, I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” Obi said.
“We are just trustees, like it is happening in Abia, we want it to happen everywhere in Nigeria,” he added.
Obi praised Governor Otti for his achievements within two years, saying the governor has made a significant difference in governance.
“We have come to celebrate two years with a difference. People have always said that they need eight years, they need ten years, they need twenty years. But, I have always said that one day can make a difference,” he said.
Governor Otti attributed the modest progress his administration has made to divine guidance and expressed gratitude to Obi, the legislature, judiciary, and the church for their prayers and support.
