The Federal Government has stopped eight foreign nationals from entering Nigeria over visa violations, as part of a sweeping crackdown on undocumented migration.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this known during a live interview on TVC News on Sunday, stating that Nigeria is tightening its immigration gates and will no longer tolerate lax entry procedures.
“As I stated in my meeting with airline operators, we’re putting an end to the practice of allowing individuals into the country without valid visas,” the minister said.
He disclosed that the Ministry recently met with the Airline Operators of Nigeria to ensure airlines uphold visa checks before passengers board flights to Nigeria.
“You can’t board a flight to the U.S. or the U.K. without a visa airlines know this and act accordingly. Nigeria will not be treated differently. We are not a dumping ground,” he added.
The government’s move signals a stronger enforcement regime aimed at protecting Nigeria’s borders and national security by holding airlines accountable and rejecting improperly documented travelers.
