Panic gripped residents of Grow Homes Estate in Chikakore, Kubwa, Abuja, as gunmen launched another daring midnight attack on Monday, abducting two people and overpowering local vigilantes.
The assailants breached the estate through the back fence around 12 midnight and operated for over an hour.
Police later engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted about 40 minutes, rescuing one of the victims, a woman identified as Chinyere Joe.
“The FCT Police Command, on Monday, 26th May 2025, at about 01:00AM, received a distress call… reporting an attack by armed assailants and requesting reinforcement,” said Police PRO, Josephine Adeh.
She confirmed that the police, in collaboration with the army and other agencies, are working to rescue the second victim and arrest the perpetrators.
Shaken residents called on the government to rehabilitate the estate’s poor road network and establish a nearby police station to improve emergency response.
“We are begging the government to fix this road… and help site a station here for rapid response,” one resident pleaded.
The police urged the public to stay vigilant and make use of emergency numbers to report suspicious activity.
