The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will not open for business on Monday, May 26, as the US marks Memorial Day, a solemn national holiday honoring fallen military personnel.

Announcing the closure through its official X account, the US Mission in Nigeria said the suspension of routine consular services is in observance of the annual remembrance held every last Monday in May.

Memorial Day is widely commemorated across the United States with ceremonies, tributes, and national reflection on the sacrifices of servicemen and women.

Regular operations at both the embassy and consulate are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27.

The US Mission has advised those in need of emergency consular assistance to visit its official website for guidance.
