Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal crisis and the need for political freedom.

In a candid and now viral video, the governor declared, “By now, it should be clear that I’m leaving the party. If you don’t know that, then I don’t know what you know.”

Governor Eno, who has recently spoken favorably of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, said he wants to operate in a political space where he can support the president without being accused of betrayal.

He admitted he lacks the grit of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, saying, “I’m not Wike – I don’t have the energy for internal battles.”

He emphasized that while PDP once held his loyalty, the party’s fractured structure at the national level, coupled with legal risks over internal irregularities, made his continued stay untenable.

“Political parties in Nigeria often lack real ideology differences. Our focus remains the ARISE Agenda.

“I support President Tinubu because he inherited, not created, Nigeria’s current challenges,” he explained.

Eno stressed that he is not one to play on both sides. “If I support Tinubu, I should be in a party where I can express that and support freely.”
