Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to urgently address rising insecurity and poor infrastructure within estates across the capital city.
The appeal was made during a recent election exercise at EFAB City Estate in Lokogoma, where residents chose new leaders to drive collective action in tackling pressing challenges.
Victor Friday, Acting Chairman of the estate, revealed that in response to recent security threats, the community had initiated a joint security collaboration with neighbouring estates and communities in Lokogoma.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Ada Bassey, said the election became necessary due to the growing challenges facing the estate.
She urged the FCT Minister to intervene by fixing access roads and addressing recurring flooding through the rehabilitation of damaged bridges and drainage systems.
Another resident, Mrs. Bimbo Okpere, stressed the need for stronger communal efforts to tackle social issues like poor sanitation.
She noted that government alone could not solve all the problems facing society.
Legal adviser to the estate’s Residents and Landlords Association, Andrew Eche, expressed optimism about the outcome of the election.
He said the quality of candidates gave hope for a more organised and better-managed community.
