President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Comrade Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, as the new Director General of the National Institute of Sports.
Shaibu replaces Professor Olawale Moronkola and assumes office with immediate effect.
Renowned for his deep involvement in sports development and youth empowerment, Shaibu is expected to bring a wave of reforms to the Institute.
His track record as a sports promoter during his time in Edo State has been widely acknowledged.
As Deputy Governor, he created platforms that opened doors for young athletes to thrive.
His new role is seen as a bold move to tap into that experience and reposition the Institute to better deliver on its mission of training world class coaches across sporting disciplines.
The Research institute Games Association of Nigeria has welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence in improved collaboration and stronger outcomes for sports development nationwide.
