The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched a full investigation into the recent crash of a Diamond training aircraft in Ilorin.
Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of the Bureau, led officials to the site of the May 23 incident at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport.
The aircraft, operated by the Aviation Training School, crash-landed during a simulated instrument approach to Runway 05 around 5:28 PM.
Captain Badeh Jr. confirmed the recovery of the aircraft’s data card, now en route to the NSIB transport safety lab for analysis.
According to Bimbo Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, a preliminary report will be released within 30 days.
“NSIB remains committed to a thorough and transparent investigation. The safety of our airspace is not compromised,” Badeh Jr. stated.
He added that both occupants of the aircraft are stable and receiving treatment. More updates will follow as investigations proceed.
