Activist Deji Adeyanju has slammed supporters of Peter Obi, widely known as the Obidients, over what he described as a coordinated attack on the Facebook page of fellow activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.

Adeyanju claimed the group mass-reported Sowore’s page, leading to its temporary suspension-a move he called an attack on democratic debate and a dangerous trend in political intolerance.

“This is not how to build a better Nigeria,” Adeyanju warned, insisting that suppressing criticism betrays the democratic values the Obidient movement claims to uphold.

He defended Sowore’s right to question Obi’s political record, citing controversies from Obi’s time as Anambra governor, including health sector strikes, educational decline, and unresolved killings of pro-Biafra protesters.

Adeyanju also took aim at Obi’s party-hopping history, from APGA to PDP to Labour Party, suggesting a lack of ideological consistency.

“Disagreeing with Peter Obi doesn’t mean hating him,” he said. “We oppose the whitewashing of his political record and the cult-like defense from his supporters.”

Adeyanju hinted that the online attacks may have silent approval from Obi himself, igniting fresh debate on the growing tension between political loyalty and freedom of expression in Nigeria’s digital space.
