General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has urged drivers to prioritize safety and exercise caution on the road, warning that excessive speed remains a major cause of deadly accidents.

Bakare-Oki gave the advice following a serious crash along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway on Thursday, which left a minibus driver and a passenger critically injured.

The accident occurred near Ikota School when a white Ford Jeep with number plate KWL 574 CY, reportedly speeding, lost control and rammed into a commercial minibus with registration number FST 207 YK.

The minibus driver sustained a severe arm fracture and slipped into a coma, while a passenger in the vehicle suffered intense nasal bleeding and was found unconscious.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said officers of the agency responded swiftly, rescuing the injured and transferring them to a nearby hospital with support from the police, who also helped secure the scene.

While wishing the victims a speedy recovery, Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to protecting lives through efficient traffic control and aggressive public safety awareness.
