The National Assembly has hailed the N1.78 trillion 2025 budget for the Federal Capital Territory as one of the most ambitious in recent times. But behind the applause, questions swirl over its true impact and beneficiaries.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike presented the proposal on Wednesday, with over 72 percent allocated to capital projects-a sharp departure from the tradition of recurrent-heavy spending.
Lawmakers from across party lines, including former critics like Senator Ireti Kingibe, commended Wike’s aggressive infrastructure drive.
Yet some voices suggest the bipartisan support may be rooted more in political alignment with the Tinubu presidency than in measurable outcomes.
Doubts also remain over transparency, rising insecurity, and the unexplained N21 billion slash in personnel costs.
