In a step toward a cleaner energy future, 500 polytechnic students across Nigeria’s southwest have begun a hands-on training programme in Compressed Natural Gas vehicle conversion in Lagos.
Launched at Yaba College of Technology, the month-long training is a joint effort by the Mojisola Olayinka Fatungase Edema Foundation and the South-West Zone of the National Association of Polytechnic Students.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s drive for greener transportation under President Bola Tinubu’s CNG strategy.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, speaking at the launch, described CNG as the future of Nigerian transportation.
“This programme prepares our young minds to lead the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy,” he said.
Bolanle Ogunlola of the Lagos Ministry of Transportation noted that the programme, themed “The Future of CNG in Nigeria: Empowering a Sustainable Tomorrow,” is designed to build skilled manpower for the growing CNG sector.
Former Chair of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Engr. Funmilade Akingbagbohun, described the effort as a twin investment in environmental health and youth empowerment.
“This is more than training – it is a launchpad for national transformation,” she said.
Participants will receive certifications and mentorship from industry experts, setting them up as key players in Nigeria’s energy future.
