The Federal Capital Territory is set for a fresh wave of development as the FCT Executive Committee has approved key contracts for new roads, erosion control, and public infrastructure upgrades in the capital city.
Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mr Richard Dauda, announced the approvals in Abuja after the 14th committee meeting chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Top on the list is the construction of 1.7 kilometres of access roads, drainage, and culverts in Durumi District, around the Apostolic Church.
Mabushi District is also getting a facelift with new roads, street lighting, underground drainage, water and sewage facilities, particularly around Kez Udezue Street.
Dauda also revealed that emergency repairs have been approved for a major erosion site threatening a vital water pipeline stretching from Lower Usuma Dam through Kubwa to Airport Road and Gwagwalada. Chinese construction firm CGC Nigeria Ltd has been tasked with handling the urgent work.
Other projects approved include the full renovation, furnishing, and technical upgrade of the Department of State Security headquarters, and the construction of a new Magistrate Court building in Jabi.
Chief of Staff to the Minister, Mr Chidi Amadi, noted that nine out of thirteen proposals were approved to boost infrastructure and elevate living standards in the FCT.
With these fresh interventions, the Wike-led administration is once again putting its stamp on Abuja’s rapid transformation.
