A 27-year-old man, Musa Lamidi, has been ordered into prison custody by the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly murdering his father, Rufai Lamidi.
The police arraigned Lamidi on Wednesday, accusing him of striking his father on the forehead with a stick at about 11 p.m. on May 11 in Eruwa, Oyo State. The alleged assault led to the elder Lamidi’s death.
Prosecuting officer, ASP Musbau Lawal, said the offence violates Section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which prescribes the death penalty for murder.
Presiding Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, declined to take Lamidi’s plea, citing lack of jurisdiction.
He ordered the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal guidance and adjourned the matter to July 10 for mention.
