In a decisive push to improve sanitation and environmental health, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N2.6 billion for three major waste management projects across the capital city.

Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, made the announcement on Tuesday after the FCT Executive Committee meeting presided over by Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to Obuah, the projects include the operation and maintenance of the Apo Extractor, an extension of service at the Wupa Basic Sewage Treatment Plant, and a two-month contract renewal for solid waste collection in 40 designated areas of the FCT.

“These approvals reflect our ongoing commitment to making Abuja cleaner, safer and more environmentally sustainable,” Obuah said.

Mr. Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, disclosed that 13 memos were presented at the meeting. Out of these, nine were approved while three were deferred for technical reasons.

Amadi noted that all approved projects are designed to strengthen infrastructure and elevate the quality of life in the Federal Capital Territory.
