Grace-Charis Bassey Becomes US Navy Sailor, Gains Citizenship

Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey has officially become a United States Navy Sailor and taken the oath of allegiance as a US citizen, marking a significant personal and professional milestone.

Bassey, widely known for her roles in Nigerian film and television, announced her graduation from the US Navy boot camp in an emotional post on Instagram. She shared videos and photos from the ceremony and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received.

“This journey wasn’t easy — but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way. Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever,” she wrote.

She dedicated her achievement to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, stating, “In honour of my late father – Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”

Bassey also revealed that she joined the Navy choir during training, staying connected to her creative roots. She concluded her message by saying, “I am eternally grateful. Proudly a US Sailor.”

Her transition from Nollywood star to a member of the US military has inspired many of her fans both in Nigeria and abroad.
