Court Remands 11 men for Killing, Setting Buildings on Fire

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday ordered the remand of eleven men accused of murdering a man and destroying property worth millions of naira during a violent attack in the Lagelu area.

The accused-Alim Olumuyi, Lateef Kareem, Kazeem Adeyemo, Oderinde Adedayo, Idowu Oladipupo, Tijani Akanmu, Yakub Oyelahan, Michael Abiodun, Akeem Akande, Kazeem Oke, and Ishola Adebayo-are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder and arson.

Prosecutor Sergeant Samuel Owolabi told the court that the suspects shot and killed one Segun Babatunde during the March 7 incident.

He also alleged that they set ablaze several buildings valued at N150 million and destroyed a tractor worth N120 million belonging to one Idowu Biliaminu.

Magistrate Gladys Oladele declined to take their plea due to lack of jurisdiction and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The case has been adjourned until June 16 for mention. The charges fall under Sections 516, 319, and 443 of the Oyo State Criminal Law, 2000.
