Nigerian pilgrims performing the 2025 Hajj will enjoy authentic local dishes in Medina, thanks to strict new standards enforced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The assurance came during an inspection led by Alhaji Abdullahi Kabir, head of NAHCON’s Medina Feeding Committee, who toured the seven catering firms responsible for feeding over 17,000 Nigerian pilgrims already in the holy city.

NAHCON, according to Kabir, is leaving nothing to chance. From the selection of raw ingredients to final meal packaging, every stage of the process is under tight scrutiny.

All spices, grains and preserved items are being checked to eliminate expired or substandard products.

In a statement released by Malam Ahmad Muazu, the committee’s Public Affairs Officer, NAHCON also announced a ban on artificial additives. Only natural ingredients will be allowed, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to both health and cultural authenticity.

“Our mission is simple—give our pilgrims safe, nourishing meals that remind them of home,” Kabir said. “We are firm on quality, and there is no room for shortcuts or compromise.”

The move has been praised as a bold step to ensure comfort, dignity and a sense of identity for Nigerians on the sacred journey.
