The Lagos State Government has rolled out a traffic diversion strategy to manage movement as repair works begin on the Marine Bridge from Sunday, May 18 to Sunday, June 8, 2025.

According to the schedule released, the Federal Ministry of Works will carry out the repairs in two phases to limit disruption on one of the state’s busiest transit corridors.

Phase one, running from May 18 to June 1, will focus on the section of the bridge at Lawani Oguntayo Road heading toward Apapa and Costain. Phase two, from June 2 to June 8, will cover the Ijora Badia stretch and Lilypond Access Ramp into Apapa.

To ensure minimal gridlock, traffic will be redirected. Motorists from Costain to Apapa will use a contraflow lane, while those coming from Ijora Olopa to Apapa should divert through the Ijora Causeway ramp beside Omni Retail Company.

In the second phase, vehicles are expected to continue through Lilypond Access Road.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged drivers to remain calm and follow the plan.

“Officials will be on ground to ensure smooth movement and safety,” he said, assuring that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be actively deployed.

The bridge is expected to fully reopen on Monday, June 9. Road users are advised to plan ahead, explore alternate routes, and consider public transport to ease pressure on affected roads.
