In a decisive push to strengthen local industries and create jobs, the Federal Government has ordered all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to prioritise Nigerian contractors in public contracts.
This directive, anchored on the Nigeria First procurement policy, was approved at the Federal Executive Council meeting as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to a public notice by the Bureau of Public Procurement, all procurement processes must now reflect local content preference.
The Bureau is also preparing a Local Content Compliance Framework to guide implementation.
Training is ongoing for procurement officers across all six geopolitical zones on the use of revised bidding documents, with a full operational manual expected to follow.
The policy signals a strategic economic shift aimed at empowering Nigerian businesses and promoting self-reliance in public contracting.
