Governors from Nigeria’s Northwest region have vowed to unite against the twin threats of drug abuse and rising insecurity, following a high-level emergency meeting in Kaduna.

The gathering, hosted at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, brought together top officials from the region to chart a new course for peace, development, and youth reform.

Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum and Katsina State Governor, Dr Umar Dikko Radda, said the deliberations were productive and focused on shared challenges affecting the region.

“We had a long, fruitful discussion on the growing issues of insecurity, drug abuse among our youth, and other serious social concerns. We all agreed to act together and urgently,” Radda told journalists.

He revealed that presentations were made by the Northwest Development Commission and the Federal Medical University, Funtua, underscoring the need for collaborative strategies to turn the tide of underdevelopment.

Host Governor, Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna State, stressed that poverty and unemployment were driving factors behind the region’s woes.

He assured that the governors were already partnering with development agencies to tackle these problems from the root.

The meeting signals a renewed determination by Northwest leaders to deliver peace, security, and a better future for their people.
