The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated eight utility vehicles to the Federal Capital Territory Administration to boost its health emergency preparedness and response efforts.

During a brief handover ceremony in Abuja, WHO Country Representative, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, said the donation is part of the SURGE initiative — Strengthening and Utilising Response Groups for Emergencies — aimed at enhancing rapid health intervention systems in crisis situations.

Dr Mulombo explained that the vehicles will improve the FCT’s capacity to swiftly deploy emergency teams, deliver critical supplies, and reach affected communities with greater efficiency.

He noted that the FCT is one of six states selected to pilot the SURGE project in Nigeria, positioning it as a frontline hub for effective health crisis management.

FCT health authorities welcomed the support, describing it as timely and vital to strengthening their ability to respond to disease outbreaks and other health emergencies.
