The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has ordered the immediate demolition of more than ten unauthorized duplexes built on designated green space in Wumba District, near Apo.
Council Coordinator Felix Obuah issued the directive following an inspection that uncovered the illegal developments, which were erected without approval or official land allocation. Despite repeated stop-work notices, the developer continued construction in violation of the Abuja Master Plan.
Development Control Director Mukhtar Galadima confirmed that none of the structures had permits, adding that both completed and incomplete buildings will be brought down within 48 hours.
Officials from Parks and Recreation and the Environmental Protection Board warned that destruction of green areas poses serious environmental risks, including rising urban temperatures and increased flooding.
The FCT Administration has vowed to crack down on illegal constructions, especially in zones set aside for environmental conservation.
