Travellers flying in and out of Nigeria can now declare cash online, as the Nigeria Customs Service rolls out a new digital platform at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Unveiled on April 9, the e-Currency Declaration Form aims to monitor cross-border cash movement and boost national security.
In its trial run, 69 declarations were filed—mostly outbound—totaling over $1.3 million.
Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi described the move as part of Nigeria’s alignment with global anti-money laundering standards.
With the Abuja launch deemed a success, the digital system is set to expand to other airports and border points across the country.
