Cole Palmer says he feels a wave of relief after finally ending his 18-match goal drought in Chelsea’s 3–1 triumph over Liverpool on Sunday.

The England international stepped up in stoppage time to convert a crucial penalty, sealing a vital win that boosts Chelsea’s push for Champions League qualification.

Speaking to the club’s website after the match, Palmer admitted the goal was long overdue, having last found the net on January 14 against Bournemouth.

“I felt normal. Stuff happens… sorry for my language,” he said. “I went three months without scoring, but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team.”

The midfielder also addressed criticism from social media, saying he pays no mind to online trolls.

“Social media nowadays is full of idiots, the trolls, and whatever. I don’t pay any attention to that,” he said. “I’ve scored today, and I’m happy, but it’s only one, and I’ve got to keep improving and try and reach new levels.”

Palmer’s return to the scoresheet could not have come at a better time, as Chelsea edge closer to their top-four ambitions.
