In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the Ikwa community of Gwagwalada Area Council, two friends were apprehended for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old Fulani girl.
The disturbing event unfolded on Saturday afternoon when the suspects, identified as Ismaila Yakubu and Kabiru Aliyu, lured the victim under the pretense of purchasing traditional nunu at a nearby residence.
According to eyewitness accounts, the duo, both commercial cyclists, brought the girl into one of their homes, where the heinous act took place.
The alarm was raised by a vigilant neighbor who heard suspicious noises emanating from the room.
His immediate action led to a swift response from the community, prompting others to come to the girl’s aid.
Upon entering the room, they discovered the young woman in distress, half-naked and visibly traumatized.
While one suspect managed to flee, the other was apprehended by the vigilant group, who subsequently turned him over to security personnel after leading them to the hiding place of his accomplice.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where medical professionals confirmed the assault.
The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding safety in the area, and the community is calling for increased vigilance and support for victims of such crimes.
The FCT police command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on high alert, emphasizing the importance of protecting the vulnerable within their midst.
