Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has called on journalists to uphold truth and integrity as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the media landscape.
In a statement marking the 2025 World Press Freedom Day, delivered by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to a free and responsible press, describing it as a cornerstone of democracy.
He acknowledged the transformative power of AI in news production but warned that it also poses serious ethical challenges.
“Technology must not replace human judgment. We need discernment, verification, and moral responsibility now more than ever,” he said.
Ododo assured that his administration would protect press freedom while promoting transparency and open dialogue.
He emphasized that journalists must be empowered, not intimidated, especially in an era where false information spreads at the speed of a click.
The governor encouraged media professionals to embrace innovation without compromising ethical standards, and called on media houses, regulators, and civil society to work together in defending editorial independence.
“Our democracy depends on a press that is bold, truthful, and responsible,” Ododo stated.
