The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has unveiled a bold plan to reposition the six area councils of the FCT as prime tourism and investment destinations.
Speaking in Abuja at the maiden edition of the FCT Area Councils’ Tourism and Hospitality Investment Carnival and Expo, Dr Mahmoud said the FCT Administration is committed to unlocking the vast economic potential within the area councils through strategic promotion of their cultural and natural assets.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Bunmi Olowookere, the minister described tourism as a powerful driver of economic development and job creation.
She noted that transforming the area councils into hubs of hospitality and enterprise would attract investors and boost local economies.
“This event is designed to showcase and promote the rich investment opportunities that lie untapped within the area councils.
“We are laying the foundation for inclusive growth by leveraging tourism,” she said.
The initiative signals a shift toward decentralized economic planning in the FCT, with a focus on empowering grassroots communities through sustainable tourism and hospitality ventures.
