Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed Area Council chairmen to immediately settle all outstanding minimum wage arrears owed to their workers.
Represented by the Head of the FCT Civil Service, Grace Adayilo, at the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration in Abuja, Wike expressed dismay over the continued strike by Area Council staff despite the disbursement of ₦4.1 billion to the six councils to cover the new wage obligations.
He emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to staff welfare and called for urgent action from council leaders to restore industrial harmony.
Wike also outlined ongoing efforts to upgrade working conditions across the territory, including school renovations and the supply of essential teaching materials.
“A well-treated workforce is essential to delivering quality public services,” the minister said.
