The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has issued a firm clarification that only its national leadership, headed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, is authorised to speak on national and international matters.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 1, CAN stressed that entities such as “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN” are not recognised by its constitution and are therefore not permitted to issue statements on behalf of the body.
“Only the President is empowered to make official pronouncements for CAN,” the statement affirmed, urging the media and the public to disregard any claims or releases made by regional or unofficial groups.
The Association outlined its constitutional structure, comprising national, zonal, state, and local government levels, each with clearly defined responsibilities.
While lower tiers manage local affairs, they are not authorised to represent CAN’s national voice.
CAN called on media outlets to verify statements by contacting its National Secretariat and cautioned that misinformation from unauthorised sources threatens its mission of unity and peace across Nigeria.
The statement reaffirmed CAN’s commitment to national cohesion and urged all stakeholders to rely only on verified, official communications.
