NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) is set to acquire a 5.2 million standard cubic feet per day compressed natural gas (CNG) facility from Gas Network Services Limited (GNSL), according to a filing by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Located in Nigeria, the facility compresses natural gas for industrial use and fuels natural gas vehicles, reaching areas beyond pipeline coverage.

The acquisition marks a major step in advancing the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative launched in August 2023 to drive CNG adoption following the removal of fuel subsidies.

By expanding infrastructure, NGML aims to make CNG more accessible and affordable, particularly for transportation and commercial sectors.

While the FCCPC acknowledged the deal’s potential impact on market competition, it said consumers stand to benefit from improved access to cleaner energy alternatives.
