The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has hailed the Federal Capital Territory Administration for its renewed push to eradicate malaria across the capital.

Speaking during the 2025 World Malaria Day event in Abuja, Dr Emeka Ayogu, Chairman of the NMA FCT chapter, praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, for their strong leadership in combating malaria.

“They are doing very well in tackling malaria at households and community levels,” Ayogu said. “The FCTA’s efforts to reinvest in healthcare, rethink malaria strategies, and reignite commitment to ending the disease are truly commendable.”

The event, organised by the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, offered free malaria testing and treatment, educated residents on prevention, and promoted access to free malaria services.

Ayogu further noted that the FCT Malaria Elimination Programme and the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drive were not just creating awareness but also mobilising critical resources for the fight.

Dr Fasawe disclosed that the secretariat was scaling up interventions and partnering with local, national, and international bodies to defeat malaria in the territory.

She urged residents to use the free insecticide treated nets provided and take advantage of ongoing free testing services.

Also speaking, Dr Babagana Adam, Permanent Secretary of the secretariat, reaffirmed the FCTA’s commitment to fighting malaria.

He revealed a new partnership with FAMKLIS, which will ensure free antimalarial drugs are available at public health facilities.

“Our gathering today shows our resolve to take action against this preventable and treatable disease,” Adam stated, encouraging residents to get tested and take home insecticide treated nets.
